Conditions

Taxi fare conditions

The following conditions apply for taxi service in Aruba.

Currency and exchange rate

  • All fares in this price list are in United States Dollars (US$) and/or Aruban Florins (Afl.).
  • All payments must be made in US Dollars or Aruban Florins.
  • Exchange rate: US$1 = Afl. 1.80.

Minimum fare

The minimum fare for taxi service is US$10 (Afl. 18).

Basis of fares and maximum passenger capacity

Prices are based on transportation of one (1) to four (4) passengers per taxi. A surcharge of US$3 (Afl. 5.40) will be applied for each additional passenger. The taxi driver is not allowed to transport more than seven (7) passengers.

Surcharge

A surcharge of US$5 (Afl. 9) applies on:

  • Sundays;
  • official holidays, which are: New Year’s Day (January 1), Dia di Betico (January 25), Carnival Monday, National Anthem and Flag Day (March 18), Good Friday, Easter Monday, King’s Day (April 27), Labor Day (May 1), Ascension Day, Christmas Day (December 25) and Boxing Day (December 26);
  • daily from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM;
  • December 24 through January 1.

The surcharge may only be charged once per trip.

Luggage (airport and hotels/accommodations)

Each passenger traveling to or from the airport is allowed one (1) piece of luggage and one (1) backpack or handbag. For each additional piece of luggage, a fee of US$3 (Afl. 5.40) per piece will be charged.

Attaché cases, laptop bags, carry-ons and any equipment or aid necessary for the passengers’ mobility may not be charged for.

These same rules apply to transporting passengers between hotels and other accommodations.

Use of trunk (other trips)

Use of the trunk for transportation other than to or from the airport or between hotels/accommodations will incur an additional total charge of US$3 (Afl. 5.40) (not per item). This charge cannot be applied for luggage.

Waiting time

Waiting time is charged at US$1 (Afl. 1.80) per minute. Waiting time is the period during which the taxi is kept waiting for the passenger, from the requested arrival time or during the trip, at the request of the passenger or due to circumstances attributable to the passenger.

Damage / cleaning fee

If the interior of the vehicle becomes wet due to wet clothing, or is damaged due to sharp objects or otherwise, the taxi driver may recover from the passenger(s) concerned the costs of repairing the damage, as well as any lost income resulting from the inability to transport other customers until the interior of the vehicle has dried or the damage has been repaired.

Hourly hire

Taxis may be hired at an hourly rate of US$60 (Afl. 108) per hour, with a minimum of two (2) hours.

Lost and found

The driver is not responsible for lost items left in the vehicle, except within reason. Any found items will be reported and delivered to the Department of Public Transportation (Departamento Transporte Publico; DTP) or the nearest police station.

First passenger refusal and shared rides

  • If the first passenger to request transport to a location refuses to share the ride, the driver is not allowed to take additional passengers into the taxi.
  • If multiple passengers share a ride to the same destination, the fare shall be divided among the passenger groups traveling to that destination.

Report overcharging

The taxi driver is not allowed to charge higher fares than those approved by the Government. Overcharging should be reported to the Department of Public Transportation (DTP) via taxi.aw, +297 594 8660, +297 564 4050 or complaints@dtp.gov.aw.

Publication of the official taxi fares

The official taxi fares currently in effect are published online at taxi.aw. Every taxi must display a QR code linking to taxi.aw and the text “Visit taxi.aw for the official taxi fares.” at all times inside the vehicle, in a location clearly visible to all passengers.
